Meet the Host

Meet Ash

Welcome to Twentynine Palms, home of the headquarters to Joshua Tree National Park, the Oasis Visitors’ Center and our cabin rentals!

Ash Maharaj
Hi , my name is “Ash” Maharaj, proud property manager of these vacation homes.

I am South African in nationality with origins of East Indian. Twenty years ago, I emigrated from South Africa to the US. My choice to live in the US as a resident was made when I tragically lost my mum to a brutal crime in South Africa. My move to the U.S. presented me with challenges of moving from one continent to another, and all the other challenges of being an immigrant. More significantly I was challenged with a change in my professional career. My professional experience upon leaving South Africa was teaching, training and management consultancy.

I consider myself fortunate as I come from a family of entrepreneurs. From childhood, I understood the dynamics of owning a small business by observing my mum, uncles and grandparents in their very successful small businesses in South Africa. Twentynine Palms is where I choose to be an entrepreneur…a city of many murals that depict the pioneering spirit of the area. As a single female entrepreneur that has emigrated from one continent to another, I happily embrace this pioneering spirit.

As your host, I am delighted you have chosen the properties I manage for your vacation or work stay. My intentions are for you to have a comfortable stay that is enjoyable and relaxing in a quite desert neighborhood.

I have been in this community for 15 years and actively involved in the local communities, serving as past board member Hi-Desert Memorial Health Care District Foundation, and founding/current board member of the Tourist Business District in the City of 29 Palms. Together with the City of Twentynine Palms and Visit29, I am is committed to tourism sustainability concepts and practices in the high desert. I am also actively involved as a steering committee member for the Joshua Tree Art Exposition.

I appreciate our neighbors and respect their peace and privacy. Therefore, this home is not suited for large groups or to have parties, or any function that would disturb the peace of the neighboring community. I also emphasize that off-road vehicles are not permitted to be used on the property or the neighboring community. Please note the City of Twentynine Palms has rules that prohibit off-road vehicles in residential areas.

Both of these vacation home rentals evoke a feel of southwest traditions. Improvements to the properties included adding nature trails, a soon to have picnic and sitting areas to enjoy the morning sunrise and stargaze at night. As Property Manager, I have proudly created a peaceful oasis that is a gateway to Joshua Tree National Park.
